About

Valuable, outdoor sculpture is always taking a beating from various abuses, contaminants and pollutants. The sun and wind combined with rain, ice, sand and dust is bad enough. However, add in: bird droppings, tree sap, pollen, leaves, dead insects, acid rain, smog, smoke, fertilizers, water sprinklers, fountains, vandalism and old age; and you have a combination that can and will wreak terrible havoc, drastically changing the appearance of a once beautiful masterpiece of outdoor sculpture. And over time, these elements can even begin to damage the work’s structural integrity.

Any of these contaminants and/or pollutants that find their way onto the surface of a sculpture will cause chemical reactions to occur which can cause the deterioration of any protective coatings, and eventually actually etch the metal surface, permanently damaging the sculpture.

SCULPTURE RESCUE has a four step program to cleaning, restoring, repairing, stabilizing, protecting and preserving the beauty of any sculpture.

1) Inspection

A careful and thorough visual inspection, an assessment, along with thorough research of any documentation on file regarding the history of the needy sculpture, is performed by trained professionals.

2) Prescription

Based on the information revealed during the Inspection, a detailed, written assessment and prescription, along with photographs, is furnished to the client. The Prescription will map out the necessary, recommended procedure and conservation treatment as well as the time required doing the procedure and the approximate costs.

3) Attention

The Prescription, a prescribed, cleaning, refurbishing and/or restoration procedure and conservation treatment is carefully performed, without the use of harsh chemicals, by trained artisans/technicians always in a safe and timely manner.

4) Protection

The final step is the Protection, an application of the necessary coatings to effectively seal the newly refurbished/restored surface of the sculpture from the ever present destructive elements in the environment. There is no permanent protection.  For long term protection SCULPTURE RESCUE recommends an annual maintenance procedure to keep the sculpture protected and looking it’s best for future generations to enjoy.

A detailed, written documentation explaining the conservation and preservation treatment performed, along with before and after photos will be furnished to the client.
